Green group urges self-sustainable water park

An environmental group has urged Gold Coast City Council, in south-east Queensland, to ensure a proposed new water park meets the local authority's environmental requirements.

The Macquarie Leisure Trust Group intends to develop the $56 million Dreamworld water park next to the existing theme park at Upper Coomera.

The Gold Coast and Hinterland Environment Council's Lois Levy says the developers should be encouraged to make the park's water system self-sustainable.

"One of the bases of all council decisions should be ecological sustainability and here they have the opportunity to set up perhaps for the first time ever a major development that can be completely self-sufficient in its own water supply," she said.
