BMW will bring Formula 1 closer to the fans by launching its new ‘Pit Lane Park’ at next month’s European Grand Prix.

The 5,000 square metre portable theme park includes a short stretch of track, grandstands and a replica pit lane.

The centre piece will be demonstration runs by both the BMW Sauber F1 car and the junior Formula BMW machines.

Visitors will be able to quiz drivers Nick Heidfeld, Jacques Villeneuve and Robert Kubica, take part in pit stop challenges, explore the replica garages, and enjoy various other interactive activities.

Admission is free to anyone with a ticket for the grand prix.

“This theme park allows us to bring the fans right up close to the sport,” said team boss Mario Theissen.

“That’s why we’ve paid a great deal of attention to authenticity and interaction.

“You could call it a high-tech adventure park.

“We’ve come up with some totally new ideas to give the fans what they want.”

The Pit Lane Park will also appear at the Spanish, British, Canadian, Italian and Chinese Grands Prix.
