A Rs.10 billion ($225 million) theme park on the lines of Disneyland is being set up at this industrial township near the national capital, with star hotels, water parks, shopping malls and even an artificial hill and mono-rail.

Called the Noida Entertainment City, the inaugural ride was unveiled by former cricket captain and entrepreneur Kapil Dev here Tuesday.

"Noida Entertainment City is India's first truly international amusement project and even as a concept is unprecedented here both in terms of scale and quality," managing director of International Recreation Parks Pvt. Ltd. (IRRPL), Rakesh Babbar told media persons here.

The 147-acre project is to be built in two phases over the next three years with the initial phase expected to be completed by the middle of next year, Ravi Madan, the designer of the mega project said.

The theme park is to be built over an area of 100 acres and IRRPL has roped in several international consultants to handle various aspects.

To be divided into three distinct zones - one for kids, one for teenagers and one for families - each zone will have its own set of rides, attractions and food courts designed to suit the target audience.

Plans are also on the anvil for two star hotels to enable visitors to take advantage and stay over in the facility.

The promoters expect to attract over 2.5 million visitors annually with approximately 20,000 visitors per day. To cater to this mass, the Hong Kong based traffic management company MVA is being roped in to design and handle traffic, apart from a separate monorail system.

When completed, the facility will be able to have parking space for 5500 cars and 1,900 two-wheelers, claims IRRPL.
